Clearing Storm, Tenaya Lake
Yosemite National Park, California
While it was early summer in most of California, in the high Sierras it was definitely still late winter. There was snow and ice everywhere, and the road over Tioga Pass had only been opened a few days earlier. Tenaya Lake was covered. As we approached, the storm clouds partly broke, allowing spots of sunlight to highlight some of the snowfields and rocks, while leaving others in relative darkness. The combination of billowing clouds, water streaks on the granite domes, sunbreaks and shadows, provide a variety of interesting tones and textures.
