Santa Cruz, California

I spent a warm, sunny New Year's afternoon in Santa Cruz shooting surfers. The late afternoon sun backlit the waves nicely. Though it was fairly bright, I needed the speed of a prime to catch the surfers' rapid movements while keeping them in focus. It was hard to choose whether to capture the crowd of surfers enjoying the action or the individuals perfecting their skills.
