There are many slot canyons in the Four Corners area, where flash floods have carved through layers of sandstone to create amazing labyrinths of form and color. They can be risky to explore in the summer, but winter is safer and the softer light accentuates the rich colors. The low light, however, makes shooting a real challenge, and it is often hard to find a spot to put a tripod.
