In November and December each year, the Chilkat Eagle Preserve hosts thousands of eagles who gather to gorge on the final salmon run of the year. There is so much food that the eagles are as thick as "fleas in the trees" along the banks of the river. There are over 100 in one stand of trees in this photo. The Tlingit locals call this spot “The Council Grounds” in honor of the eagles’ gathering.
