Carrizozo, New Mexico

Valle del Sol is a high desert valley in central New Mexico. There's no "there" there, as they say -- just cacti and mountains. In the summer, this would be a stark scene seared by the sun. But I took this shot in December, with gathering storm clouds highlighting the desert's "lush" side. I find black & white often works well for desert shots.
