Chilkat Eagle Preserve, Haines, Alaska

Early in the morning at the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve near Haines, Alaska, I set up across the river from one of the eagles’ salmon feeding grounds. There was a lot of activity – birds flying in and out, fighting over fish, or just watching the action around them. I had struggled to follow their rapid movements with a big, heavy lens, so I switched to a lighter lens for these shots. This made them easier to track, but required sharp concentration to maintain focus on them in flight for a clear shot.
