Monarch Winter Gathering
Morro Bay, California
While the Monarch population has experienced a dramatic decline in recent years, they appeared to be rebounding to some extent this winter. Morro Bay is one of the places where they overwinter along the California coast. They gather in the eucalyptus groves that dot the coast. While resting, they fold their wings up, and the color of the undersides blends almost perfectly with the bark on the eucalyptus trees.
