Cascades, Oregon

The Cascade Range is very new, geologically speaking. It continues to be lifted upward from the pressure of the Pacific Plate pushing under the North American Plate. There are a number of active volcanos, as evidenced by the fairly recent lava flow in the foreground and the sharp, uneroded cone of Mount Jefferson in the background.
