Joshua Tree National Monument, California

The Cholla Cactus Garden is part of Joshua Tree National Monument in southeastern California. Though they appear soft and fuzzy, the spines of the cholla are incredibly sharp and difficult to extract once embedded, so I walked around them very carefully. On this particular day, the area was blanketed in heavy fog, lending a mysterious, surreal feeling to the scene and bringing out the otherwise muted desert colors.
