Napa Valley Winter Sunrise
Yountville, California
The wine country of California now covers a large swath of the state, but it began in Napa Valley, and this is still its epicenter. Surprisingly, it has managed to maintain its largely rural, agricultural character, in spite of – or perhaps because of – its success. Often overwhelmed by visitors at other times of the year, in winter Napa is low key. On this cool, clear February day, great fields of vines stretch out in the early morning light, quietly waiting for nature’s signal to start the new cycle of growth, while a balloon rides the gentle breeze coming down the valley from the coast.
