Koyosan at Night

Koyosan at Night

Koyosan, Japan

Koyosan is a temple complex on Mount Koya on the Kii Peninsula, begun in 826 as the headquarters of Shingon Buddhism. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it is especially beautiful at night, when many of the paths and temples are illuminated. The pathways through the site pass by thousands of shrines and memorials. Many of the monasteries offer food and lodging for visitors.
