Oregon Dunes
Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area
The Oregon Dunes cover a 40 mile stretch of Oregon coast between Coos Bay and Florence. There are some very large dunes – up to 500 feet in places. This particular shot appealed due to the repetition of curves in the dunes and the smooth, windblown quality of the dune grasses. There are a number of challenges in getting decent shots here, including incessant wind, fog, strong contrast from the sun (when it's out, which was a lot when I was there), constantly blowing sand (which doesn't do much for your camera), and in some parts, loud, fast-moving ATVs. In spite of all that, it's well worth a visit.
